Coverage is the term referred to when we are talking about where you can use the O2 Mobile Broadband service. The O2 mobile network provides a mix of GPRS, EDGE, 3G & HSDPA network speeds that cover the whole of the UK. The O2 Mobile Broadband service also includes unlimited access to BT Openzone Wi-Fi networks – providing thousands of hotspots throughout the UK.
A lot of mobiles are bigger and more powerful than dongles, so they’ll get better reception. And when a dongle is plugged into a PC, the computer itself – and anything else that’s big and bulky – can block the signal. Try moving to as clear a spot as possible, like near a window, or even outdoors. Dongles are getting better, though, and future models won’t have the same problems.
Train coverage is tricky. It hasn’t been done much yet because train carriages effectively block radio signals. Virgin Trains are planning to improve coverage on some of their trains, but it’s extremely expensive so it’s unlikely to happen on all trains.
Customers who take a laptop with their Mobile Broadband package sign up to a 24 month mobile broadband package. The Apple iPad is being offered without a long term commitment and being sold directly through Apple retail channels.
O2 Mobile Broadband tariffs are better value and offer greater simplicity. We have three straightforward options (one daily, two monthly) all of which include unlimited access to public Wi-Fi hotspots. We are also unique in offering customers the ability to manage their tariffs (check usage, top up etc) through the iPad itself making it as quick and easy as possible for customers to buy data access on the move.
