Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is considered a stepping stone to a perfect Android environment featuring a new typeface made completely for Ice Cream Sandwich, it is called ROBOTO. The layout was made to use bolder text in a typographic style. Live wallpapers have been updated with “flourishes” such as on the lockscreen which prompts you to unlock your phone.
Button taps were replaced with gestures such as sliding, pinching, and swiping. Multitasking and notifications were always a better part of Android and now multitasking is even better with a new way to manage backgrounding apps with the option to remove them from multitasking/close them by simply sliding their thumbnail off of the multitask management view.
Notifications are boosted with images to go hand-in-hand with notifications, such as the contact image of someone who is texting you. Notifications also can be accessed from the lockscreen and individual notifications can be deleted using the same swiping gesture seen in the multitasking management view.
Ice Cream Sandwich also introduces native screenshots which can be taken with the harmonious click of the power button and the volume down button followed by a polaroid style animation. Android 4.0 will be available for almost everyone some time this November and the SDK is available now.
